Students’ Visit to the Golden Fund
On February 16, 2024, the students of the
Theological
Seminary
visited the
Golden
Fund
of the State Museum of Fine Arts
of
Shalva Amiranashvili.
The event was
led
by
the
Head
of the
Department
of Georgian
History
of Tbilisi Theological Academy and Seminary,
Doctor
of
Historical
Sciences
and
Theology,
Professor Sergo Vardosanidze.
With
great interest
did the
students view the unique Georgian
artifects
of
gold
and partition enamel of the 8th-19th centuries, coins
of
medieval
centuries, the
Gold
Cross
of
Queen
Tamar,
an
ancient icon of the Saviour,
unique exhibits
of
monumental painting and iconography, mosaic, sculpture and
others
preserved in the Golden
Fund.
In addition, Mr. Sergo Vardosanidze told the students the story of the building of the museum itself. He noted that it was built by the Swiss architect Giuseppe Bernardazzi. The construction was commissioned by Iakob Zubalashvili. The building is a rare example of late classicism. It was given the status of a monument of cultural heritage in 2007.
Such educational events are an integral part of the process of teaching at Tbilisi Theological Academy and Seminary.
