In October 2023, the Head of the Doctoral Program of Tbilisi
Theological Academy and Seminary, Doctor of Theology, Professor,
Deacon Tsotne Chkheidze and Doctor of Theology, Professor Giorgi
Andriadze were on a working visit to Warsaw Academy of Christian
Theology. The visit was carried out as part of Erasmus+ exchange
program of academic staff, funded by the European Commission.
Within its framework, the representatives of TTAS met with the
Rector of Warsaw Academy of Christian Theology, His Eminence Giorgi
(Panofsky), the member of the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church of
Poland, the Professor of the academy, Bishop Andrew (Borkowski),
the Dean of the Faculty of Theology, Professor Jerzy Ostapchuk, the
professors, teachers and students of the school representing
various denominations. The parties spoke about the prospects of
cooperation between their educational institutions in the fields of
science, education and research; online meetings were planned
regarding issues of interest to both parties. Within the framework
of the exchange program, the representatives of Tbilisi Theological
Academy and Seminary gave public lectures on the Old Testament and
the Canon Law to the students involved in the programs of
Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at Warsaw Academy of Christian
Theology.
The topic of Deacon Tsotne Chkheidze’s lectures was based on the
main conclusions of a theological analysis done on the Old
Testament prophets’ symbolic actions. The goal of the
aforementioned course was an analysis of prophetic ministry, as
well as the presentation of the characteristics of the symbolic
actions of the Old Testament prophets - Haggai, Shemaiah, Elisha,
Hosea, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel and Zechariah, and the definition
of the essence of prophetic symbolic actions.
The topic of Professor Giorgi Andriadze’s series of lectures was an
analysis of the teaching of Christian Anthropology in the Orthodox
Canonicity. The lecturer focused on the following issues: The
Canonical Epistle of Saint Gregory the Nazianzus; the question of
interrelation of human nature, severity of sins and penances,
etc.
Within the framework of the visit, the lectures and workshops held
by the professors of TTAS earned great interest and high evaluation
from the side of the students, teachers and professors.
The parties have agreed that abridged versions of the speeches will
be published in the scientific and theological journal of Warsaw
Academy of Christian Theology, published four times a year, and in
the future, the professors and doctoral students of Tbilisi
Theological Academy and Seminary will have the opportunity to
cooperate with the mentioned journal.
The visit carried out within the framework of the Erasmus+ program
was an excellent means of professional growth and perfection of the
academic level. In the theological and scientific circles of
Poland, more people got to know Georgia’s leading theological
institution - Tbilisi Theological Academy and Seminary. Awareness
and interest in the scientific research and educational activities
of our institution has increased on an international scale. This is
the evaluation given by the participants of the Erasmus+ program to
the mentioned visit.
