On Wednesday, October 21, Mr.
Grigol Kublashvili successfully defended his dissertation thesis at
Sergius Orthodox Theological Institute, in Paris. The theme of the
doctoral dissertation was the identity and teachings of Leontius of
Byzantium.
Grigol Kublashvili completed his
master’s degree course at Tbilisi Theological Academy and Seminary
(2012-2015), and in the years 2016-2020 took the course on the
Doctoral programme at St. Sergius Orthodox Institute of
Theology, in Paris.
The scientific supervisor of the
dissertation was Honorary Professor (Emeritus) of Saint Sergius
Orthodox Institute of Theology (Institut de Théologie Orthodoxe
Saint-Serge), Mr. Joost van Rossum. The Dissertation Council was
chaired by Professor Nicolas Cernokrak, (Nikola Cernokrak),
Archpriest, Dean of Saint Sergius Orthodox Institute of Theology
(Institut de Théologie Orthodoxe Saint-Serge). Official opponents
were the Rector of Tbilisi Theological Academy and Seminary,
Protopresbyter Giorgi Zviadadze, PhD in Theology and Philology,
Professor; Dean of the Department of Religious Sciences (Section
des Sciences religieuses) of the Higher School of Sorbonne
(Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes), Professor Vassa Kontouma (Vassa
Kontouma) and the teacher at Saint Sergius Orthodox Institute of
Theology, Julia Naett-Vidovic (Julija Naett-Vidovic),
Professor.
The dissertation was assessed as
excellent according to the French standard - Mention très honorable
avec félicitations du jury, and the doctoral student was also
advised to publish the paper.
