On December 16, Monday, the
representatives of Tbilisi Theological Academy and Seminary visited
Tbilisi SS. Giorgi and Euthymius the Athonites School of Orthodox
Christians. The group of visitors was comprised of: the Head of the
Department of Easel and Monumental Iconography, Professor Merab
Buchukuri, Dean of the Faculty of Christian Art Theory and History,
Mrs. Tea Bezhuashvili, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Christian
Psychology, Mrs. Natia Pruidze and the Deputy Head of the Public
Relations Office, PhD of Theology, Mr. Tsotne
Chkheidze.
Mr. Tsotne Chkheidze familiarized
the students of the 10th, 11th and 12th grades with the Mission and
history of Tbilisi Theological Academy and Seminary. Mrs. Tea
Bezhuashvili spoke about the Faculty of Christian Art Theory and
History. Mrs. Natia Pruidze introduced the Baccalaureate Programme
of Christian Psychology, and Mr. Merab Buchukuri dwelt on the Work
of the Faculty of Ecclesiastical Architecture, Iconography,
Restoration of Easel and Monumental Iconography. Mrs. Tea
Bezhuashvili drew the audience’s attention to the uniqueness of the
faculty where apart from the professional subjects, the students
learn Theology, which is paramount for the study of Christian Art
Theory and History. Mrs. Natia Pruidze mentioned that at present,
there is a great demand on good psychologists. According to her,
the knowledge of Theology broadens psychologists’ mind, which later
helps them in solving problems that human beings have to
face.
Mr. Merab Buchukuri noticed that
Theology is also taught in the Faculty of Ecclesiastical
Architecture, Iconography, Easel and Monumental Iconography, which
develops in the students the correct attitude to their profession
and helps them correctly direct their activities. Mr. Merab
Buchukuri emphasized that with the supervision of high
qualification teachers and professors, the students of the Faculty
of the Restoration of Easel and Monumental Iconography have carried
out many significant restorations. They uncovered the 16th century
unique fresco of Saint Nino in the Temple of the Transfiguration in
the town of Tsalenjikha, restored the frescos in the Cathedral
Temple of Sioni and Kashveti Temple in Tbilisi, etc.)
