On March 14, 2025, the Head of the Department of Georgian History, Professor Sergo Vardosanidze organized an excursion for the first-year students of Tbilisi Theological Seminary.
The excursion was dedicated to the events which took place on March 9, 1956 on Rustaveli Avenue, in the vicinity of the former House of Communications, and to the sacred memory of those who were killed on that day. Mr. Sergo told the students in detail about the tragic events that took place in several districts of the city on March 9. On that day, thousands of peaceful protesters were dispersed on the orders of the political and military leadership of the Soviet Union, using firearms against them, machine guns and cannons; 15 people were killed and 54 were wounded. According to some sources, the casualties were much higher. The students visited all the places where that tragedy occurred 69 years ago.
Many things from the stories told by the professor turned out to be unknown to the students. Mr. Sergo answered the questions asked by the students extensively and exhaustively.
